There is a room full of scientists and they are all very excited, for everyone can sense that history is about to be made. A few assistants are making the last few adjustments to what is the result of many years of hard work and research: An android capable of human emotions. The room is teeming with the excitement of its occupants- scientists, journalists, camera crews, and grey-haired politicians. Finally, the moment rives. The head scientist's forehead is damp with nervous beads of sweat, he wipes them away shakily with a handkerchief. He nods to the crowd, then flips the switch to the android. For a completely silent moment, nothing happens. Then LEDs begin to light up, and with a faint whirring sound the android awakens. Slowly it sits upright with a hiss of pneumatics and gears. The luminous cyan sensors in the eye sockets take in it's surroundings as camera crews crowd in. It stands up, and suddenly the room is filled with cheering. Scientists are jumping up and down, hats are thrown in to the air. The experiment seemed to be a success. But the android was not paying attention to any of this.
Instead its attention is captured by a sound. The android's sensors twitch, aquiver with excitement as this novelty is assessed. With a faint whir, the android casts its luminous eye sensors towards a window, where the sound is coming from. Then suddenly, before anyone notices what is happening, the robot bursts through the window. It takes a few quick steps outward, then is suddenly surrounded by the sound. With pure wonder and fascination, the robot turns its face up in to the rain, for it had been the pattering of a winter storm that had entranced it so. The android raises its hands, not noticing as the moisture began to short its circuits. Electricity buzzes blue and angry as the water begins to hit the wires that had broken during the robot's escape, but then the android dies- the look of bliss still frozen on its face. Stunned, the scientists and media crew and grey-haired politicians stare at the dead and rusting shell of the experiment that was once considered to be the future of all robotics. By a largely undisputed decision, the android's body is left there on the sidewalk where it died, hand still open catching the rain- a memorial statue to the deepest of emotions.
